Skunk cabbage [Symplocarpus foetidus]

1: Skunk cabbage. On the tour I believe Wildman stated they were poisonous. In the Peterson's Guide they are listed as edible. The catch is the calcium oxalate crystals cause an intense burning sensation in the mouth. Only thorough drying removes this. (Crestwood Riverside, Apr 14, 2001)
